Tree Planting Experience in Konso
The Konso Development Association (KDA) is working with the local community to rehabilitate degraded lands in the Gersale village. The community-based nursery raises a range of tree seedlings while soil and water conservation activities lay the groundwork for reviving an ecosystem in otherwise harsh conditions. After touring the nursery, participating tourists will be able to plant their seedlings in a nearby degraded area and the ceremony will be blessed by a local elder. To ensure sustainability, part of the travelers’ contribution goes towards hiring community members to regularly water and care for the seedlings. Name tags with the name of the donor and date of the planting will be made to commemorate the donation and hung in the nursery.
Tourists wishing to visit Konso and plant a tree in Gersale village can book a tour through a participating tour operator. To learn more download the Konso Traveler's Philanthropy brochure and visit the Konso destination page.
