In the Guassa Highlands artisans weave beautiful, natural woolen blankets combining beige, gray, and brown. Working outdoors on vertical looms, the artisans create tapestries, mats, and blankets with traditional Ethiopian Orthodox designs. Other artisans make pompoms and knitted fabric from the locally produced wool. Functional pottery is also made in the region, fired in kilns fueled by cattle dung. Guassa basketry, made primarily to store and transport food, is also spectacular.
